The Creative Curriculum – A better approach to early childhood education
The Creative Curriculum, first developed in 1973, is a research-based approach. It has been revised to keep up with new theories and research about brain development and developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education. Over the past 20 years, scientists have been able to study neurological aspects of how children learn. These studies have confirmed that nurturing, stable relationships and linguistically and cognitively rich environments contribute positively to healthy brain development and learning.
At each level, we offer a variety of activities to encourage cooperative socialization in a warm and loving atmosphere. Every child who attends our program will have the opportunity to learn from lesson plans that follow developmentally appropriate practices that encourage social, emotional, and cognitive development. We expect our students to enter kindergarten healthy, happy, confident, and excited about learning.

Chicks
Birth - 16 months
Our teachers ensure that children in these growth stages receive the best care, attention and opportunities for development. They provide parents with daily communication about their child's activities and developmental milestones.

Nestlings
16-24 months
Our Nestlings (toddler) Program is designed to provide each child with a safe and nurturing environment that will stimulate learning. Teachers actively chart the development of each child and provide parents with daily communication regarding their child's personal care routine.

Owlets
2 year olds
In the Owlets group, our teachers actively work toward potty-training each child. Children are introduced to the concept of center play. The curriculum provides a strong vocabulary-enriched base so that literary skills may be introduced to children.

Fledglings
Preschoolers
Our early-learning program and curriculum are designed to enhance the physical, socio-emotional, language and cognitive development of each child. Parents are made aware of their child's academic progress through quarterly assessment tools and parent-teacher conferences.
Get to know Director Anthony Andrews
Nearly 20 years in both the Health & Safety and Early Childhood Education have equipped Anthony with the knowledge, skills and abilities to be an effective leader. He has served on the Mary Bethune Board of Directors, the Lynchburg City Schools Equity Task Force, the Amazement Square Board of Directors, the Lynchburg City School Board and the Smart Beginnings Task Force. A Lynchburg native, Anthony has also coached basketball for 13+ years and served as a local firefighter.
Starting out as volunteer at various preschools, Anthony worked his way up through the ranks of early childhood as a substitute teacher, a classroom floater, teacher and assistant director with organizations such as St. John's Day School, Elizabeth's Early Learning Center and Peakland Preschool. He is currently enrolled at Walden University in a bachelor's degree program, majoring in Early Childhood Studies and has received an associate's degree in education from Central Virginia Community College. He has also obtained his Child Development Associate (CDA) credential that involved curriculum planning, operations, nutrition and directorship.
Anthony has an expectation that all children will have the opportunity to transition into elementary school healthy, happy, confident and excited about learning. He and his wife have two children, who first prompted Anthony's awareness of the need for quality early childhood education.
About the Assistant Director, Kayla Crance
Approaching 20 years in the field of Education, with over 7 years of experience in Early Childhood Education, Kayla has found her passion for working with young minds, and shaping little hearts. She served military families for over 10 years working within the bases’ childcare facility of School Age children ranging from 5-13 years of age. During that time she was able to connect with many families and helped to counsel them through hard times. When she was not busy supporting families, she attended Hopkinsville Community College where she attained her Associates Degree in Education, and then went on to complete her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education at Liberty University. In time, she moved from Tennessee back to Virginia and found her love for preschool. She became a lead teacher at the Goddard School working with Pre-K and then accepted a position as Curriculum Director within the facility to showcase her skills and knowledge to other staff by helping to implement lesson plans and activities to children. To become closer to family and home, Kayla relocated to Lynchburg, Va in 2019 and became a Lead Preschool Teacher at Elizabeth’s Early Learning Center where she acquired 4 years of support, training, and guidance.
Recently, Kayla has expanded her love for Early Childhood Education by joining Mr. Andrews at Teachable Moments as the Assistant Director. She is excited to excel in her new position as she continues to support families and staff as they work together to develop little minds and keep them safe and happy. Kayla loves working with children and watching them grow, and is looking forward to seeing Teachable Moments expand into something great!
